CSS Exam 2025 Structure

The Central Superior Services (CSS) exam in Pakistan is held every year by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) to select candidates for government jobs. The exam includes a written test with compulsory and optional subjects, followed by a medical exam, a psychological test, and an interview. The entire process is designed to assess candidates’ knowledge, thinking skills, and fitness for public service roles. This article will explain the structure of the CSS exam for 2025 and describe each step in detail.

Steps to Attempt CSS Exam 2025

The CSS exam has five stages. The first stage is the MPT (Mandatory Preliminary Test), which is usually held in October or November. After that, the main written exam takes place in February or March. Following the written exam, there are three more stages: the medical test, the psychological test, and finally, the Viva Voce (interview).

Written Examination

The written examination is the main part of the CSS exam and consists of twelve papers. Six of these are compulsory, covering subjects like English, Pakistan Affairs, Islamic Studies or Comparative Religion, General Science & Ability (which includes both General Science and Ability sections), and Current Affairs. The other six papers are optional, and candidates can choose them based on their interests and academic background.

Medical Examination

The medical examination checks whether candidates are physically fit for civil service jobs. Doctors assess candidates’ vision, hearing, and overall health. To proceed to the final interview, candidates must pass this test. It ensures that only healthy individuals are selected for government roles.

Psychological Assessment

The psychological assessment evaluates a candidate’s mental and emotional suitability for civil service. This includes written tests, group discussions, and interviews to assess personality traits, decision-making abilities, and behaviour. This stage ensures that candidates have the right mind-set and stability for public service roles.

Viva Voce (Interview)

The Viva Voce, or interview, is the final stage of the CSS exam. It evaluates candidates’ personality, confidence, and communication skills. Conducted by a panel, the interview covers a range of topics to assess the candidate’s suitability for a civil service role. This stage plays a key role in the final selection process.
